Magnets are one of the most versatile items you can find in a home. They're used in most appliances as well as by themselves. The most common magnet is the refrigerator magnet which is used to stick pictures, documents and other types of paper to the fridge.
Ferrite magnets used to be most common due to their low price and usability, but as newer technology evolves, neodymium magnets are becoming more popular as they are stronger, and last longer if treated correctly.
When looking to buy new magnets, you want to make sure that you're getting the right magnet for the job. As they can come in so many different shapes and types, it is important to get it right, otherwise the magnet may fail and become unstuck.
Magnetic sheets are great when you want to create your own custom magnets. By attaching anything to the sheet, you can make it magnetic. This is one way to get a 'save-the-date' magnet at a lower cost than buying a pre-made one in a store.

What to look out for:

It's possible to create a magnet from scratch by using the correct materials. Home-made magnets don't generally last a long time as they are not truly magnetic.
Check to see what type of magnet you're buying. They come in different types and each type does have specific applications it can be used for. Neodymium magnets are best used inside as they are easily affected by weather and prone to rusting, which causes them to lose their magnetic charge. They are otherwise the best type of magnet due to their strength and long lifetime.
Magnetic sheets are a cheap and easy way to get a magnet in a shape you need without needing to buy a custom made magnet at a high cost. Unfortunately, this type of magnet generally doesn't have a strong pull.
'Save-the-date' magnets can be attached to most metal objects and can be a useful reminder of when there's an important appointment coming up by being placed in an obvious or easy to see place such as on a refrigerator.
